A Meditation of Self Inquiry

The Meditation Space AK Classes are Open!

2 Class Options Per Week:
  • Wednesdays from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM. Doors open at 6:15 PM.
    • The fee for the 1 hour meditation classes is $15 for drop-ins.
    • For new customers to The Meditation Space AK there is a 1 time promo for 2 classes for $20.
    • Anyone who has already paid for classes will be able to use them for the 1 hour meditation classes.
  • Saturdays at 11 AM - 12 PM. Doors open at 10:45 AM.
    • The fee for the 1 hour meditation classes is $15 for drop-ins.
    • For new customers to The Meditation Space AK there is a 1 time promo for 2 classes for $20.
    • Anyone who has already paid for classes will be able to use them for the 1 hour meditation classes.

I am a licensed clinical social worker, chemical dependency counselor II, and retired Navy SEAL. I completed the two year iRest certification process July 2018 and am a Certified iRest Teacher. Contempt prior to investigation is the best way I can describe my thoughts about yoga prior to ever being in a yoga class. October 2010 I tried yoga to see if it would help my lower back. I found the postures of Hot 26 to be very rehabilitating for the back I live with. The yoga practice was also very beneficial in calming my heart/mind.

I completed a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training in 2014 and heard about Yoga Nidra, an ancient meditation practice. After the teacher training was over, I found a book on Yoga Nidra: A Meditative Practice for Deep Relaxation by Richard Miller, PhD. iRest is adapted from Yoga Nidra to increase the availability of meditation to people. iRest is used at Walter Reed Medical Center and many VA facilities to treat veterans with PTSD. iRest as a meditation of self-inquiry, means we set an intention, have a heartfelt desire/purpose/mission to guide us and have an inner resource to help us explore the body sensations, breathe and energy, feelings and emotions, thoughts and beliefs, sense of joy and well-being, and awareness of all of these. Then we bring this awareness off the mat into our daily life. We learn to experience all our sensations, emotions, thoughts as messengers and friends and work with them to promote harmony in our life. We learn to respond to life instead of reacting to life.

I completed Warriors at Ease (WAE) level 1 training November 2018 and Level 2 training in April 2019. WAE is yoga specifically adapted to the needs of the military and veteran community. Many veterans with prosthetics, TBI, PTSD and MST participate in yoga and meditation classes designed for them.
